Cor Caroli (Alpha Canum Venaticorum; a CVn)
The brightest star in the constellation Canes Venatici. The Latin name, meaning "Charles's heart", is a reference to the execution of King Charles I of England in 1649 and is said to have been given to the star by Charles Scarborough in 1660. It is actually a visual binary star, the components having magnitudes of 2.9 and 5.5. The brighter star is an Ap star.
